In this session I'm fishing with Matt Reynolds and were searching for the bass that have vacated the upper reaches. I say searching for spawners but thats not exactly correct as even though they are in spawning condition the multiple weirs and barrages in their way stop them from an easy run to the brackish waters they require to spawn. The timing of the spawn needs big flows to coincide with the urge to migrate and with so many obstacles the stars need to align each season for this to happen. We are still searching for the areas that these fish get stuck or hold up in waiting for the chance to make the brackish and spawn. In Queensland you can legally fish above a weir in closed season and target bass so hopefully this gives you an understanding of how the systems work this time of year and help you find the bass.
