HOW TO USE THE DIMINISHED 7 Good day everyone. I would love to show a very cool way to use a diminished 7 piano chord. I heard this in a song recently over a chord progression. We will be using this chord on the 2. Normally, we play a minor chord on the 2 but in this case, we will play a DIMINISHED chord.
The key is G. The scale using the NNS(Nashville number system) is:
G(1) A(2) B(3) C(4) D(5) E(6) F#(7)
We will utilize this chord in a 6-2-1-5 chord progression. The 2 in this case is A.
The A diminished chord can be written as: A+C+Eb+Gb.
So, using a LH/RH notation where LH represents the left hand and RH the right hand, our 6-2-1-5 progression is:
6: E-B/D-G
2: A/C-Eb-Gb-A
1: D-G-A-B/G-D
5: D-F#-A/D-F#
Try playing it. It sounds beautiful. This will work wonderfully well in slow songs, love songs or worship songs.
