Okay the first step in creating a safety plan is to start noticing your own symptoms. What do we need to look out for? When does this plan need to be used? I know this may sound silly, but if we don’t know what our own unique symptoms are and write them down we can try to talk ourselves out of using the safety plan and/or getting help. So think about it. Is it when you have been sleeping 16 hours a day? Canceling plans with friends? Not making it to work? Not showering for more than 3 days? Maybe you start drinking more? Really take your time and consider what it feels like for you and if you can, try to come up with some early warning signs. So consider what that early sign is for you, and write these things down at the top of your plan so you know when you need to use it.
