The USNS Comfort is capable of performing 90% of the procedures done in US hospitals. That's according to one of the crew members, Captain Charles Cather.
On Friday, the media got a firsthand look at some of the services offered on board. The Comfort is on its seventh destination of its five-month mission to bring medical relief to the vulnerable in the Caribbean and the Americas.
Captain Cather said the ship has a total of 12 operating theatres.
He also explained how persons are picked for special services.
