Manchester United failed this summer because they didn’t sign Bruno Fernandes or a recognised striker. That’s according to ESPN pundit Ian Darke. Man Utd spent big during the summer, bringing in three key players. They broke the world transfer record for a defender by bringing in Harry Maguire from Leicester for £90million. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also spent £50m on Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka. But despite their big summer spend, they opted against replacing Romelu Lukaku, who departed for Inter Milan. Instead, they signed Swansea winger Daniel James in a replacement for Alexis Sanchez, who followed Lukaku to Inter. Speaking on ESPN FC, Darke argued that United should have brought in a recognised striker as well as Fernandes, in an attempt to solve their early season problems.
