Political genius or underhanded manoeuvring? Boris Johnson’s plan to shut down Parliament | ABC News The Queen has approved British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's plan to shut down Parliament for several weeks ahead of the Brexit deadline.

Critics argue such a move is part of a drive to prevent MPs from having a say on a controversial no-deal exit.

Mr Johnson has rejected that, saying MPs would have "ample time" to debate the UK's departure, which is set for October 31.

Labour Opposition party leader Jeremy Corbyn and Scotland First Minister Nicola Sturgeon say the move is an attack on democracy.
