Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said the release of RIA Novosti Ukraine editor-in-chief Kirill Vyshynsky on bail was “a starting point” in the process of “ensuring media rights in Ukraine”, speaking at her weekly press briefing in Moscow on Wednesday.

“We count on the imminent and absolute discharge of Kirill Vyshinsky on all fake charges and we hope that this example, I mean today’s release, will be a starting point for the rectification of critical situation with the ensuring mass media rights in Ukraine,” said Zakharova.

The spokesperson also denied reports that Moscow had allegedly denied to issue two US senators visas for a congressional delegation visit, pointing out that “there were no concrete agreements for organising a visit, the submission of documents and, all the more, visa applications.”
