Protests Spread to Iranian Cities Against Gasoline Price Hikes
Friday evening, several Iranian cities were the scenes of protests against the tripling of gasoline prices.
Protests erupted in Ahvaz and many other cities in Khuzestan Province. The State Security Force attacked the protesting residents and broke the windshields of their vehicles. But young Ahvazis clashed with them and collectively sat down on the street, forcing them to retreat. They blocked the Mullah Thani Expressway while chanting, “Let go of Syria, think of us,” and “have no fear, we are all together.”
In Mashhad, the people held a big rally at Vakil-Abad Expressway, switched off their cars and blocked the highway. The people were chanting, “Dictator shame on you, let go of the country,” They also carried signs reading, “We will never again buy gasoline, one hand does make much noise.”
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, hailed the brave people of Mashhad, Shiraz, Karaj, Sirjan, Ahvaz, and other cities for rising up against the mullahs corrupt and criminal regime. She urged all the young people to rise in support of the protesters.
Man Sentenced to Nearly 4 Years in Prison for Evading Iran’s Sanctions
On Thursday an Iranian man convicted of exporting sensitive nuclear-related materials to Iran’s regime has been sentenced to 46 months in prison, according to an announcement from the United States Justice Department.
Behzad Pourghannad was handed the prison sentence for his role in a conspiracy to illicitly export to Iran carbon fiber, a restricted and controlled material that has applications in military and aerospace technologies, the Washington Free Beacon reported.
"Behzad Pourghannad conspired to circumvent U.S. export controls on carbon fiber, a substance with numerous military and aerospace applications," U.S. attorney for the southern district of New York Geoffrey Berman said in a statement on the sentencing. "The significant sentence Pourghannad received should send a message that such violations, which threaten our national security, will incur stiff penalties."
Iran: Numerous Cities Witness MEK Network Activity
Members of “Resistance Units,” a network associated to the Iranian Opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran, alongside members of this organization have been increasing their activities across the country. The cities of Yazd, Ahvaz, Arak, Shahin-Shahr, Gilan, Borujerd, Mashhad, Karaj, Tabriz, Marivan, Isfahan and Shush witnessed these activities. Images and quotes of Iranian Resistance leader Massoud Rajavi and Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, were installed on various parts of these cities, providing hope and motivation on the anti-regime campaign continuing relentlessly against the ruling mullahs.
Amnesty International Demands UN Investigation into Iran Mass Killings
In a statement Amnesty International welcomed recent measures taken by the Sweden, Belgium and Lichtenstein visa-a-vis the 1988 massacre of political prisoners.
Amnesty called these developments important and urged the international community for “a long overdue UN investigation.”
"Unprecedented steps towards justice for the victims of the 1988 prison massacres have been taken by the governments of Sweden, Belgium and Liechtenstein in recent weeks, sending a message to the Iranian authorities that those responsible for crimes against humanity will not escape justice, Amnesty International said today. The developments should prompt the international community to establish a long overdue UN investigation" read the report.
