‘Unfathomable’: Senate Republicans Block $255M In Funding That Is Critical For HBCUs Republicans are masters at doing things that they don't want us to know about while we're watching Trump's shenanigans.

Last week, while we were focused on the live impeachment hearings, Senate Republicans blocked from a government funding measure the inclusion of $255 Million in funding for HBCUs and other institutions historically serving people of color.

College presidents say the funding is vital to fill the pipeline of minority graduates flowing into STEM professions. But just days before the funding expired, Senator Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, the chairman of the Senate Education Committee, blocked its passage in the Senate.

The Education Department said money from the current appropriation will carry over into the next year.
