Just going off the track without trying to stay on the track is the best way in many cases but in many situations you may not have that option. At the track recently a driver failed to anticipate the direction change while counter steering in a powerslide. As he let off the throttle his car abruptly turned the other way putting him perpendicular into the wall. Also anticipate cars going off the track may abruptly change direction and come back on the track just as you drive by.
In this video anticipating direction change in the skid helped me from going back on the track and possibly avoiding an accident. A quick disconnect on my coolant system came loose and coolant saturated the rear tires. The result was an unusual amount of rear traction loss and counter steer. I would encourage my friends and anyone new to the track to enroll in a high performance driving school where skid control is experienced first hand in their own car.
