Further anti-govt protests in southern provinces

Further anti-govt protests in southern provinces (26 Nov 2019) Protesters set up burning barricades in a number of cities across Iraq on Tuesday as anti-government protests showed no signs of abating.

Demonstrators in the southern cities of Basra, Najaf and Karbala set alight tyres on major roads, blocking traffic from passing.

Earlier, Iraqi officials said one anti-government protester died when he was hit by a rubber bullet fired by security forces.

Over 350 people have been killed and thousands more wounded since the demonstrations - in protest at economic mismanagement - started at the beginning of October.

It's the largest grassroots protest movement in Iraq’s modern history.
