The GoPro Hero 8 got a new feature, which is called High Bitrate. This feature records your videos in 100mbps instead of 78mbps as the GoPro Hero 7 does. That sounds like a big improvement. But does it really improve the quality of the GoPro Hero 8 so much compared to the Hero 7?
In this video, I did a few tests. I tested the high bitrate mode in the 4K60 and 4K24 video modes and compared it to the Hero 7 with 78mbps. As bit rate differences are most noticeable when you color-grade your videos, I added some color grades.
The results? Well, the quality difference of the GoPro Hero8 compared to Hero 7 is actually not that big. To get good video quality you can easily stick to the 7 and film in 24p and away from the sun to get good results even with strong color grades.
However, if you don't have a GoPro or an action cam yet, you should better get Hero 8 as it has better value and some other nice features.
