Indian Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan - Endless Limitations & Laurels | Inspirational Life Story

Indian Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan - Endless Limitations & Laurels | Inspirational Life Story This work presents a quick biography of the great Indian Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, in view of his birthday on Dec 22nd. It talks about the endless limitations he had in his early life and the limitless laurels he managed to achieve in the most inspiring way.

He was born in Erode on Dec 22nd 1887 and brought up in a town called Kumbakonam during British rule in India. Born in a simple pious traditional hindu brahmin iyengar family, he dedicated his entire life to research in maths.

With poverty, health issues & no support, he struggled a lot to continue his research in isolation. During early part of his life, he struggled to get notebook papers to record his findings. He used to finish his work faster and use all the time for research. He went from pillar to post for supporting his own life showing only his research work as testimonials.

He still managed to rise up to the position of a global mathematician comparable with Euler & Jacobi & well appreciated by the global English mathematician G.H.Hardy. He was the first Indian to be elected a fellow of Cambridge University, 2nd Indian and youngest to be elected an FRS (Fellow of Royal Society), his birthday being celebrated as National Mathematics Day all over India, State IT day in Tamilnadu, Ramanujan day in IIT Madras. He has compiled nearly 3900 advanced results most of which are proven right after research today. He quoted "An equation has no meaning unless it expresses a thought of God".

Govt of India issued stamps in his name, a film called "The man who knew infinity" was made to talk about his life, a Ramanujan city - IT SEZ was built in Tamilnadu in appreciation of his innumerable contributions to the field of Mathematics research.

Due to continuous malnutrition and health issues, he died at 32 years on 26th April 1920, after returning from his research work in England. Even his death was not attended by most of his relatives as crossing the sea border was not acceptable during those days in his culture.

India has such rich legacy left behind all of us to draw inspirations from all these people and continuously check how much we can push beyond bars and mediocrity.
