Growth and production of Monosex Tilapia :
Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is known as commercially important food fishes for aquaculture throughout several regions of the world such as China,South-east Asia, Africa, USA and Latin America/Caribbean. Tilapia is an excellent fish for growing in the shallow and seasonal ponds in a country like India, Bangladesh southeast asia as it enjoys suitable climate and ecological conditions for culture of this warm water species. The growth performance of monosex tilapia feeding frequency and find out the effective feeding frequency to increase the production in ponds.

Generally, they have high ability of taking natural feed from pond, good interest in supplementary feed, surviving capacity in adverse wheather and they have high diseases resistance power. Along with this, the demand of this fish in international market is increasing day by day. Tilapia fish can survive in 15 degree to 41 degree centigrade temperature and grow well in 17 degree to 36 degree temperature. You can produce monosex tilapia in your pond for twice a year. Commercial monosex tilapia farming is very profitable business.

Nursing Pond Selection :

A pond with 1.6 to 5 feet depth is ideal for monosex tilapia nursing. The pond must have to be free form flood. Sufficient amount of sunlight is very important. The pond must have to be free from all types of harmful aquatic weeds.

Nursing Pond Management :

First of all remove water from the pond and make it dry.

After that apply 100kg lime, 500-700kg dung, 10-16kg urea, 5-7 kg TSP and 3 kg MOP per acre.

After 5-7 days of apply fertilizers, stock 21-28 days aged monosex tilapia in the pond. Stock 100000-200000 monosex tilapia minnow per acre.

Apply highly protein enriched feed at the rate of 10-15% of the body weight of total stocked fish.

Feeding :

Feeding the fish good and nutritious food is very important for commercial monosex tilapia production. You can feed the fish those foods that are available in the market for tilapia fish. Feeding chart of different ages tilapia are shown below.

20-25 8-10% 3-4

50-100 6-8% 3-4

100-200 5-6% 3

200+ 1.6-4% 3
