'Tech squad' A lightweight, collaborative framework for teacher led blended learning experimentation

'Tech squad' A lightweight, collaborative framework for teacher led blended learning experimentation Presented by Antony Tibbs, eLearning Specialist, Monash University English Language Centre

‘Tech Squad’, a specialised community of practice developed at Monash College, provides a lightweight and principled approach to investigating whether promising new websites, apps or other technology meet the needs of a particular context and its learners. It takes the natural process of research, experimentation and recommendation that individuals follow when approaching a new digital tool and combines it with peer collaboration and a structure that encourages a focus on pedagogy, gathering data and sharing findings. The framework supports grassroots innovation and teacher development, and provides valuable information to institutions about whether or not new affordances meet learners’ needs. In this session, learn about the principles underlying the ‘Tech Squad’ framework; how it was developed and refined at Monash College over several iterations; and how you could leverage the framework to drive innovation and blended learning in your teaching context, whether you are a teacher or manager. The framework could be applied to institutions of any size and does not require a budget. Participants will leave with a facilitation toolkit to help them to start up a Tech Squad in their own context.
