At 12 years old I picked up the guitar and this was pretty much what I would do all day everyday. Writing and singing songs, doing covers from bands I loved liked @TheCranberriesTV

I remember the first time I heard this song, in an under 18 club, filled with emo teens, dark as hell with one strobe light. I was covered in goosebumps and my eyes welled up with water, while I was head banging.
(everyone was head banging) That massive wall of distorted guitars that came in on the chorus and everyone sang along with her earnest voice that had such a sincere call, you had to answer.

That night I went home and taught myself how to play Zombie.

This was during the school holidays, my cousin's were in Cape Town, friends from Switzerland were down and Olivier was kind enough to record this on his hand held video camera and listen to me go through my songs in my diary requesting if I could play just one more. He was gracious and kind to let me go on and on and I am so grateful we managed to capture this footage. Although I find it extremely cringy to watch now, hearing my voice in that nasal register, I have to admire the confidence I had in myself then. I can learn from 14 year old Tasha.

Dolores was such an incredibly talented human, such a tiny frame with such a mammoth presence. I was obsessed and moved by the message behind Zombie.

Rest in Peace Dolores
