We are in Boise, ID and we get locked down! We check out the Old Idaho Penitentiary, which was in operation from the late 1800’s until the 1970’s. The penitentiary is surrounded by a circular brick wall that was built by the prisoners. There are viewable buildings on the grounds, but there are also buildings that are in ruin. The penitentiary’s hospital had an electrical fire in the 70’s, which the inmates took advantage of and started a riot! Come along with us! Parking: Parking is available for free.
Worth a Visit: YES! If you enjoy history, this is a great place to check out. They allow you to walk freely on the grounds, which is not always an option at other old state penitentiaries. Also, this location was featured on Ghost Adventures! Shannon had a few experiences and one specifically was confirmed by the Ghost Adventures episode (first season). The Old Idaho Penitentiary site is located at 2445 Old Penitentiary in Boise, ID.
