VIRAL : MOA complex can 'withstand extreme situations'

VIRAL : MOA complex can 'withstand extreme situations' MANILA - The management of Mall of Asia Complex on Monday belied a circulating online message claiming that buildings there were prone to collapse after Taal Volcano's eruption.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the SM Mall of Asia said the vast complex was "built on concrete piles that reach the bedrock and will withstand extreme situations."

"The statement where water will make the building collapse is patently false," the mall added.

It's a hoax, according to SM Mall of Asia management.
"We also have rigorous annual checks to ensure the safety of the buildings so at no time will the safety of our customers, tenants and employees be compromised," it added.

SM Mall of Asia, located in Macapagal, Pasay City, fronting Manila bay, is one of the Philippine capital's biggest malls, housing thousands of retail stores, restaurants, and recreation centers.

SM Mall of Asia is owned by SM Prime Holdings, Inc., a publicly-listed company.
