Assam govt to form statutory body to ascertain socio-economic status of 'indigenous Muslims' Assam Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has confirmed that the state government will form a statutory body to conduct a survey to ascertain the socio-economic status of indigenous Muslims of the state.
Addressing media persons in Guwahati, Sarma said indigenous Muslims of Assam who can be categorised under Goria, Moria, Deshi, Jola always had a distinct identity which has been lost to an extent with the coming of immigrant Muslims and the government's aim now was to properly restore the rights of the indigenous Muslims.
