Things used to be a lot... more gruesome... for our dear cindery princess. Join me on this animated dive into the origins of Disney's Cinderella! Well, her past variants. I look at how close Disney's version is to it's French "inspiration," and how much darker this tale got in the hands of the Brothers Grimm. If you thought the evil stepfamily was bad in Walt Disney's animation, oh my friend have I got a tale for you! (It's this one, right here!). Not only is the evil stepmother cruel to Cinderella (or, Cinderbum!), but she is also desperate and willing enough to have her own daughters suffer truly gruesome fates.
