Students are becoming 'mini' versions of their 'stress-filled' parents

Students are becoming 'mini' versions of their 'stress-filled' parents Media Diversity Australia Director Antoinette Lattouf says “critical literacy and numeracy skills of Australian students are languishing” amid a “backdrop” of “increasing parental resistance to homework”.

Ms Lattouf said students are “morphing” into “mini” versions of “their stress-addled parents” in Australia.

In 2019, reports found Australian students are falling years behind the rest of the world in numeracy and literacy, according to the 2018 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) report.

Australian students are now three years behind Chinese students of the same age in mathematics.

“I don't think enough value is being placed on real, honest family connection, that has no alarm or calendar note attached to it,” Ms Lattouf said.
