TC Damien Cat 1 Au to intensify further. February 6 16:48hrs AWST

The Bureau of Meteorology, Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre (TCWC) Perth Western Australia has upgraded the system to Tropical Cyclone "Damien" currently a Cat 1 (Au scale) and is to intensify further and for a short period "rapid intensification". The Centre was forecasting a Cat 2 landfall but their latest chart indicates a Cat 4.

Cyclone Warning and a Watch currently in place along with related Flood Watch information.

There is also another Tropical Low (Invest 91p) to the South of the Solomon Islands and is likely to develop further in coming days. Both the BOM and Fiji Met Service are currently monitoring that system. Meteo France New Caledonia is also monitoring.

Our Australian/Oceania Channel is providing local coverage to both systems and there is a possibility of a further system appearing in the Gulf of Carpentaria.

We will also attempt to provide coverage to Tropical Cyclone "Francisco" in the Sth West Indian Ocean region.
