Unswerving is a work for Grade 3 Concert Band, commissioned by SCEGGS Darlinghurst for their 125th Birthday Celebration Concert in 2020. 'Unswerving' celebrates the life and achievements of Australian wartime nurse, Vivian Bullwinkle. She was the sole surviving nurse of the Bangka Island Massacre, when the Japanese killed 21 of her fellow nurses on Radji Beach, Bangka Island, in the Dutch East Indies in 1942.
Following the war, she advocated for better education and conditions for nurses, established and raised funds for the Australian Nurses’ Memorial, and later held the role of President of the Royal College of Nursing, Australia.
