ECE Distinguished Seminar: Prof. Shanhui Fan

ECE Distinguished Seminar: Prof. Shanhui Fan "Control of electromagnetic fields for energy applications"

Electromagnetic fields represent a fundamental aspect of nature, and serve as the primary carrier of energy. New abilities to control electromagnetic fields, as enabled for example by the developments of metamaterials and nanophotonic structures, can therefore have profound implications for energy technology. In this talk, Fan discusses some of the recent efforts in applying the concepts of electromagnetics towards developing new energy technologies, with examples including radiative cooling, and robust dynamic wireless power transfer.

About the ECE Distinguished Seminar Series:
University of Michigan’s Electrical and Computer Engineering division has established the Distinguished Seminar Series with the intent to host distinguished academics and industrial leaders who have had significant influence in the advancement of the ECE discipline, and whose visions are shaping the future and setting the research agenda of electrical and computer engineering. Our goal is to display the most recent advancements in all sub-fields of ECE to our research community and student populations, and to provide networking opportunities to our faculty and Ph.D. students.
