IMF calls for ‘substantial’ stimulus to boost global economy amid COVID-19

IMF "코로나19 타격 가계•기업에 현금지원 등 실질조치 있어야"

The IMF's chief economist has called on countries to carry out what she called "substantial" fiscal and monetary measures to help stem the economic harm of the coronavirus outbreak.
In a blog post on Monday, Gita Gopinath said governments should try to help consumers and businesses through measures sch as cash transfers, wage subsidies or tax relief.
She also advised central banks around the world to provide liquidity to banks and companies.
She added that policy rate cuts or asset purchases can support financial markets if needed.
