The A team (Salford) 74 Connected Shootings in One Year As War Rages On #StreetNews

The A team (Salford) 74 Connected Shootings in One Year As War Rages On #StreetNews A six-year feud between gangsters in 'the A-Team' and 'the Antis' groups is at the root of the crisis - and it's taken the number of shootings in Greater Manchester to levels unseen for more than a decade.
On Saturday a gunman opened fire at a car on Weaste Lane, near the junction with Willows Road.

It was the 25th shooting in Salford since January last year. Three shootings in Wigan last year and one in Leigh this year are also linked to the Salford dispute.

The force measures its figures from April to April.

So far in 2019/20 there have been 74 shootings of which 17 caused injuries, across Greater Manchester.

That's the most since 2008/09, when there were 84 shootings. In that year, offshoots of the Gooch and Doddington gangs were engaged in tit-for-tat conflict in south Manchester, resulting in the deaths of a number of young men.
Greater Manchester Police's Xcalibre anti-gang and gun crime unit ended the cycle. They then moved the drive to Salford, as a new frontier opened up there.

Salford's gang war saw the assassination of Paul Massey in July 2015, and the shooting of a seven-year-old boy and his mother on their doorstep three months later.

The shootings have continued since then, and, worryingly, gangland codes no longer appear to apply in Salford.

A string of incidents has proved that women, children, and innocent family members are no longer immune from the violence - indeed it seems the relatives of rivals are now being deliberately targeted in shootings and car-bombings.

Police have made 200 arrests and recovered 13 firearms as they attempt to disrupt Salford's organised crime gangs.

But there is growing concern from law-abiding members of the public and politicians.

After a gunman opened fire at a car on Weaste Lane, near the junction with Willows Road, on Saturday, one local resident, who lives 200 yards from the scene said: "This is serious. It is out of hand."

They added: "As someone who has lived here since the 1980s I find it absolutely diabolical. For years we have had to put up with this across the city.

"Someone has to take a stance. I know the police have limited resources but shootings like this on the street are endangering innocent lives."
