When you become a worldwide traveler,
airports are likely to become the kind of place
where you'll spend a lot of your time. You'll
find yourself killing time at coffee shops, or
browsing through the shelves of bookshops
to see if you can find anything different that
you haven't seen in the other 10 shops that
you just passed. Airports are also your gate
into a new country and a new culture, and they
are a window into what you'll experience
during your visit. But some airports around
Off Mainland Malaysia there's an island called
Tioman, which is also home to the only airport
within the region. As you get closer to Tioman,
you'll spot a lot of greenery and deep blue
waters around - it's quite paradisal. You'll also
notice a small line of concrete near the coast,
which happens to be the runway of the
airport. This runway is only one way as there
is privately owned land nearby that keeps the
airport from expanding. Pilots are expected to
fly as if they're coming straight into the
mountains and then make a sharp L shaped
turn to face the runway and finally land.
Through the years, many light private plane
accidents have been reported. Mostly, there
have not been any casualties, but I wonder
Through the years, many light private plane
accidents have been reported. Mostly, there
have not been any casualties, but I wonder
what the people in those planes think about
their VIP flights ending in such a rough way -
they definitely got a run for their money!
Paro Airport, Bhutan
What would it be like to be one of only 17
qualified pilots to land on an airport? |
definitely would feel a lot of pressure! And
that's the case in Paro Airport- the entry point
for those travelers who seek to explore the
legendary Kingdom of Bhutan. An airport that
only operates during daytime.
Narsarsuaq Airport is one out of two ice
covered airports on our list. Ice itself makes it
already one of the most dangerous airports in
the world, but what really makes things worse
is the harsh weather conditions and the low
visibility that come with it. This place is often
hit by strong winds that make it difficult for
pilots to have a smooth landing.
Also, Narsarsuaq Airport is close to some
active volcanoes, which ...pretty much make it
impossible to fly once they start erupting. Any
ash particles that go into an active engine can
turn into a terrible and tragic accident. Why
does this airport exist in the first place? Who
would want to go there? Well, Greenland is a

Courchevel International Airport, France
So far I've mentioned some airports where
landing is rough, but now I want to present to
you an airport where taking off can be quite
challenging as well. With a narrow and short
runway of 1,700 feet long, Courchevel
International Airport is a place with a slope
that makes it difficult for pilots to take off.
And when it comes to landing, only a selected
group of pilots are allowed to access it
through one of the nearby deep valleys. These
pilots only have one chance at landing! With
such a small and tricky space, the plane has to
perfectly fit into the runway or else it won't be
able to make it.
