Cristiano Ronaldo made Ballon d'Or vow after first winning prestigious award

Cristiano Ronaldo made Ballon d'Or vow after first winning prestigious award Cristiano Ronaldo has won a record five Ballon d'Or's - and he apparently vowed to reach that historic milestone immediately after first winning the prestigious prize.  Ronaldo and Messi are the only two players in history to have one the ultimately individual award five times, with both named on the shortlist for the 2019 award as they look to stand-alone at the top of the list.   His first Ballon d'Or came back in 2008 after leading Manchester United to Champions League glory during an unforgettable season.  United team-mate Evra has revealed how he stated he needed to win "at least five" in the immediate aftermath of his win.  The Portuguese superstar had to wait five years to win the prize again before reeling off four Ballon d'Or triumphs in the next five seasons.  Speaking on Sky Sports Monday Night Football, Evra was asked if he was surprised by the career Ronaldo has had.  "I'm not," he declared.  "I remember when we were talking with Cristiano when he won his first Ballon d'Or, he talked to me and said 'I have to win at least five', and that's what he did, so I'm not surprised.   " Cristiano Ronaldo is the most professional player I ever played with. He was the one that if we had training at 10, he would be there at 8.  "He was the last to leave the training ground, practicing his skill.  "That's why, when we compare him to Messi, I always choose Cristiano and people say it's just because he's my friend.  "I just think Messi, it's just a gift, it's talent. God said, 'go on, go and play with those kids'.  "But Cristiano worked so hard. He's a machine.  "He doesn't want to lose anything. He even wants to be the most beautiful guy, he wants to be the one that is dressing the best.  He also recalled an amusing tale which highlighted Ronaldo's competitiveness and drive.  "I tell this story about the table tennis table and Rio Ferdinand," he said.  "They played on this table tennis table, and Rio Ferdinand beat Cristiano.  "Everyone was laughing, so two weeks later, Cristiano brought a table tennis table and said 'I will get my revenge'.  "Everyone said, 'come on, Cristiano, don't embarrass yourself, you lost last time', but he practiced, he played and he beat Rio Ferdinand."
