THE DARK KNIGHT is a masterpiece. I am going to tell you why I love it, even after 10+ years.
For one, for the first 5+ minutes of this 120+ minute movie, there is no Batman. Instead, it focuses on the Joker to help people understand what is going on in Gotham.
THE DARK KNIGHT uses Hanz Zimmer. Remember The Lion King? No? Well, Hanz Zimmer won an Oscar for his work on the movie. His talent has been apparent for some time.
BATMAN and THE JOKER only have a few scenes together. It is amazing at how a movie can still feel cohesive, even when the main characters have limited time together.
The tense sequences are so memorizable. Scenes like Harvey's fundraiser, the funeral, the ferry scenes, and the truck flip (duh), and so many others are so recognizable that anyone who has seen the movie can easily recognize them.
The movie showed the future of superhero movies. As we already know, as of right now, people love superhero movies in unimaginable ways. Soon, they will be all we have left if we do not take care of cinema.
The ending is so heart-touching. BATMAN taking the fall for Dent made us cry with tears, as he could not worry about anything but ensuring Gotham had a white knight. In the dramatic ending, COMMISSIONER GORDAN explains to his son the value of BATMAN's sacrifice. I still choke up at that scene today.
The good guy, Harvey, turns bad. I know, Harvey is pretty bad. But his shift from fighting against crime, to embracing crime, makes for a dramatic sequence that everyone loves.
As you can see, THE DARK KNIGHT is burned into my heart. In fact, I saw the movie when it came out in theaters, in July of 2008. In fact, two years later, another masterpiece from Chrstoper Nolan came out, which was called Inception. However, no Nolan movie will ever be as good as THE DARK KNIGHT. If we're talking about Heat, that's a different story. With THE DARK KNIGHT being on my shelf, I am revisiting last decade.
Again, THE DARK KNIGHT will always be one of my favorite Nolan movies. The reasons above don't lie, either.
Hope I blessed you with this. Any THE DARK KNIGHT fan will surely agree with these reasons.
