Backpacking the Beartooths| Climbing Granite Peak, Montana's Highest Mountain|Aero Lakes|Fossil Lake This was a backpacking trip we did a few years ago in the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness in Montana, just outside Yellowstone National Park. We climbed Granite Peak, which is the highest peak in Montana, and then spent several days hiking and camping on the Beartooth Plateau. Some of the areas we hiked through were Aero Lakes, Sky Top Lakes Basin, Oly Lake, Fossil Lake, and the Sierra Creek drainage.
