The wettest sugarbeet harvest I have ever experienced

The wettest sugarbeet harvest I have ever experienced What an unusual beet harvest to say the least!! I realize that weather is not predictable nor are two years ever the same, however, there are "normal" or "usual" patterns. For example, more often than not grain harvest is typically finished around early to mid August, soybeans around mid September and sugarbeets around mid October. This year, however, due to a wet August we finished the grain harvest on September 1st just before more rain. Between September 1 and October 19th, we received around 13 inches of rain. We are sitting as of October 21 with short of a 1/3 of our sugarbeets harvested, and our soybean crop has not been touched.

These farmers are proving to be quite resilient and optimistic in spite of challenging circumstances. We hope to get all of our beets harvested knowing that winter is right around the corner....and as for the soybeans? We will have to hope for a hard frost and little to no snow...they might make it! :)

So far this has been the wettest fall I have ever experienced in the Red River Valley!!
